The History
After the formation of the Nearly Open a number of years earlier, and the introduction of prizemoney and World Ranking points for all of the Nearly Open events, in what was an obviously selfless decison, it was decided that the Nearly should be showcased not just in United Kingdom and Australia, but to the WORLD!!! The formation of the Hemisphere Cup, where teams would be selected on Nearly World Ranking points and teams representing both the Northern & Southern Hemisphere was born. Spain was the 1st country to benefit from the Nearly world vison and in 2008, the 1st Hemisphere Cup was played at Valderraama. In what has since provided at stage for the worlds (Nearly) best players, the result concluded in a nail biting 15 -15 tie....
From Spain, the USA has been the favoured destination with the following courses hosting the Hemisphere Cup -
2010 - TPC Sawgrass, Florida
2012 - Kiawah Island, South Carolina
2014 - Pinehurst, North Carolina
2016 - Pebble Beach, California
2018 - Scottsdale, Arizona
2020 - Torrey Pine, California (Not Played due to COVID)
2022 - TPC Sawgrass, Florida (and Capitol Hill & Cambrian Range, Alabama due to Hurricane Ian
2024 - Hilton Head - Harbour Town, Heron Point & Atlantic Dunes, South Carolina
