After a break in traditon of Champions Dinners, a Champions Lunch was held prior to the 1st Round of 23rd Nearly Open at The Ship (or should that be SIP...) in Brancaster. Whether this helped or hindered our nearly "Talented" group remains to be seen but this lunch was a chance for the guys to get together in a show of support, strength and love for our great mate, Gavin Holmes' road to better health. Plenty of laughs and stories were shared over lunch and we are sure that these will be further shared with Gavin soon. A treasured item was the Nearly shirt worn duing the legendary 2012 Australian Open Victory by Gavin - the only victory in the colony by the Northern contingent. C'mon Gav!!!

Basically 11 months to the day have past since the last Nearly Open which saw Rookie Mark Foley claim the 22nd Nearly Championship in Aberdovey, Wales. The world has possibly come to grips with COVID and while not gone, is not the major threat in the world today. Also during this time, our great mate and the only Northerner to be crowned a Nearly Australian Open Champion at Metropolitan in 2012 - Sir Gavin Holmes - suffered a major health issue in mid May that is still continuing and his fight for better health is being supported every minute by Tracey, Gav's children and family, his friends and of course, all the people of the Nearly Open all over the world. Gavin - Bling Bling, Gavlar is larger than life and we all wait for the day when we get to hear that special laugh that epitomises everything about Gavin, is ringing out before us in a bar or golf club surrounded by those who love him. The 23rd Nearly will be an event where his great mates from both on and off the golf course will gather and jointly give all their thoughts, love and prayers for better health for Gavin....c'mon Gav!!
